A GERMAN IRON ARMADA CHEST OR STRONGBOX
17th CENTURY
Engraved lockplate to the reverse of the lid with a hanged cover enclosing a locking mechanism shooting seven bolts. Pierced iron covers intricate lock. A second compartment inside with lock and key. This chest would have been used by officers at sea to store valuables and bolted to the deck of the owner's cabin. Losses to painted floral decoration and heavy patination as would be expected of a piece this old.
